Wedding Photographer Costs in the UK: What You Will Pay and Why
Photography is one of the first things couples want to price up. It is also one of the hardest to compare, because every photographer sells it differently. This guide explains wedding photographer costs in plain terms, so you know what is fair and what to ask before you book.

How much does a wedding photographer cost in the UK?
Prices across the UK vary a lot. Many photographers charge between £800 and £2,500 for a full wedding day. Some charge more, and some charge less.
At HOBS FILMS, wedding photography packages start from £260 and go up to £980. If you want photos and video together, packages run from £780 to £1,800. These prices are clear, with no weekend surcharges.
What changes the price?
Five things usually decide the final price.
1. Hours of coverage. A short ceremony needs fewer hours than a full day from morning prep to the first dance. More hours means a higher price.
2. Number of photographers. One photographer can cover most weddings well. A second photographer helps with big guest lists or events in two places at once.
3. Photos only, or photos and video. Adding a film costs more because it needs more equipment and a lot more editing time.
4. Travel. Some photographers add a fee for distance. We travel UK-wide as standard, so you do not pay extra for that.
5. Date and season. Many photographers raise prices for Saturdays and summer. We do not add weekend surcharges.
What is usually included?
Before you compare quotes, check what each package includes. Ask about:
How many hours of coverage you get
How many edited photos you will receive
How you get your photos (online gallery, USB or both)
How long delivery takes
Whether you can print the photos or share them freely
Whether there is a charge for extra hours
Two quotes that look the same can cover very different things. A low price with only two hours of coverage may cost more than a fair price with a full day.
Costs by type of wedding
Some weddings need more time or planning than others.
Registry office or small ceremony: Short coverage is often enough. This is the cheapest way to get great photos.
Elopement: Packages are small and simple. Our London elopement packages are £260, £495 and £795.
Nikkah, Sikh, Hindu and African weddings: These often run for many hours, with several events over more than one day. You may need longer coverage or a second photographer. A photographer who knows the traditions also saves you stress on the day.
Can you get a good photographer on a budget?
Yes. A lower price does not have to mean poor photos. These tips help you save without losing quality:
Choose the hours you need. Cover the moments that matter most, such as the ceremony, family photos and the first dance.
Pick one photographer. Add a second only if your guest list or venue needs it.
Book early. Good dates fill up fast, and early booking gives you more choice.
Look at full weddings, not just highlights. Ask to see a complete gallery from one wedding, so you can see how the photographer works across a whole day.
Get everything in writing. A clear quote with hours, photo numbers and delivery dates avoids surprises.
Female photographer: does it cost more?
No. If you want a female photographer, for comfort or for religious or family reasons, we offer this on request at no extra cost.
Questions to ask before you book
What is included in the price?
How many hours will you cover?
Will you be the photographer on the day?
When will I get my photos?
What happens if you are ill on my wedding day?
Do you charge for travel or weekends?
A good photographer will answer all of these clearly.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I spend on a wedding photographer?Plan the amount around how much of the day you want covered. Many couples spend between 8% and 12% of their total budget on photography, but your own priorities matter more than any rule.
Are cheaper photographers worse? Not always. Price often reflects hours, extras and business costs, not just skill. Always check real galleries and reviews.
Do I need to pay a deposit? Most photographers ask for a deposit to hold your date. Check the amount and the cancellation terms before you pay.
Is video worth the extra cost?Photos show you moments. A film lets you hear the vows, the speeches and the laughter. Many couples say this is what they want to keep most.
